Herzing University – Orlando Launches Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
CASSELBERRY, FL (January 24, 2012) – Herzing University – Orlando announced today that it has launched a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program to help meet the growing need for nursing professionals. There are more than 2.5 million registered nurses in the country today, both men and women, and the field is expected to grow 22 percent nationally by 2018.
“At a time when demand for nurses continues to grow and 75 percent of Florida hospitals report that they are understaffed for nurses, we are very excited to offer a degree that will help to fill this void while also helping our fellow Floridians to receive the care they need from nursing professionals,” said Heather Antonacci, campus president of Herzing University - Orlando. “The BSN degree adds to our continuum of nursing programs which provide our students with career opportunities in every type of healthcare facility, as well as the option to move into advanced practice and management positions if they continue their education.”
Program to Train Nurses Begins at Herzing University – Orlando
Those interested in training to become a registered nurse can pursue a 3-year BSN degree at a school known for individualized attention and career-focused curriculum. Herzing University’s Orlando campus is offering a new bachelor of science in nursing degree for 2012.
“With our aging population, the field of nursing will just continue to expand,” said Heather Antonacci, president. “With the number of employees retiring and the increased need for skilled professionals, nurses will continue to be in demand.”
Graduates will be eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX) and will be prepared for entry-level positions as a baccalaureate-prepared registered nurse.

Herzing University – Orlando Offers Free College Preparation Course to Help Potential Students Gain Skills to Succeed
Program Offered Nationwide by Herzing University to Help Connect People with Careers, as Unemployment Remains High, but Skills Shortages Emerge for Employers
ORLANDO (October 5, 2011) – Herzing University – Orlando announced today that it is offering a new, free College Preparation Course for individuals who have thought about continuing their education but aren’t quite sure they’re ready. The program is part of a nationwide initiative by Herzing University to lend a hand to individuals who need additional education and training to improve their career potential, but are reluctant to make the commitment due to fears about everything from study skills to work-life balance.
“We hear from so many potential students who really want to pursue additional education to help them move up to better jobs and careers, but they really need the support and confidence to proceed and make that investment in themselves,” said Renée Herzing, president of Herzing University. “We’re making this investment of free classes for students nationwide across all 12 locations as well as Herzing University Online, in an effort to help both individuals and employers to succeed, with skills and education that are aligned with today’s workforce.”
Although the unemployment rate in the Orlando area remains high, employers are concerned about the inability to find skilled employees to fill jobs in many of the high-growth career areas where Herzing University – Orlando focuses its curriculum. The flexibility offered by Herzing University – Orlando to take courses on campus, online or a combination of both, is an important factor for working adults, particularly those with young families.
“This free college preparation course is designed to help everyone from high school students who want to see if small class sizes and one-on-one attention will help them be successful in college, to working parents who are concerned about whether they can succeed in juggling the demands of work, school and family,” said Heatherann Antonacci, campus president of Herzing University – Orlando. “We’re giving them the opportunity to see what it’s like to learn on campus or online, and find a program that fits their interests and lifestyle.”
The free College Preparation Course is offered as an eight-week program on-campus for individuals who prefer classroom instruction. For those who prefer the flexibility of online classes, the College Preparation Course is also offered as a four-week online class.
Limited space is available for the next class, which begins on October 31. Potential students can find more information and register for one of the free courses at www.herzing.edu/freeclass or by calling 1-800-596-0724.

Radiology student Makes Ultra Sound Impression
A voice mail from a Florida clinic administrator to Herzing University – Orlando president Heather Antonacci really made her day. “One of your intern radiology students went above and beyond in providing assistance to an 83-year-old patient,” the administrator said. “Barbara has severe chronic medical conditions and needs continual radiologic imaging procedures. It is a struggle to get ready for the many tests, before, during, and after. Barbara said Herzing student Krystal Andrews is a credit to our program and the institution as a whole. She said she provided the best care this patient has ever received in any medical facility, ever.” Well done, Krystal!

Heart and Hope Conference
On Saturday Feb 20, 2010, the third semester nursing students had the opportunity to participate in the 4th annual Heart and Hope Statewide Family Conference held at Southwest Middle School in Orlando. The conference is sponsored by the Family Network on Disabilities. The students alternated between attending parent training, skill-building and support sessions, and providing child care for disabled children and their siblings.

Associate Professor Terri Kyle, MSN, ARNP, accompanied the students. She remarked, “I was very proud of the students’ flexibility and adaptability. It is very difficult for parents of disabled and special needs children to leave their children with ‘just anybody’ because of the child’s needs, but the students jumped right in and provided excellent care for the children, some of whom were quite challenging.” She continued to say, “Many parents thanked the students when they picked up their children at the end of the day.”
Kyle reported that she received an email from the Lenora J. Marten, president of the Florida Organization of Parents of Blind Children that praised the Herzing University student nurses for giving the children “exemplary” care. “Not only did they make our parents feel comfortable,” Marten wrote, “but the children happily spent the day with them.”
At President Marten’s personal request, the students are scheduled to assist with childcare at the Florida Organization of Parents of Blind Children Statewide conference being held at the end of May.
